Welcome to the wiki site for the San Jose City Hall Peregrine Falcons, in association with
The City and Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group, at UCSC, have formed a partnership bringing the Falcon Cam to the World Wide Web. You can watch the pair raise their young at the SCPBRG website or you can visit the City of San Jose Falcon cam. If you don't have time to watch the Falcon cam, or you read about scrape activity of interest on the discussion forum, you have a good chance of catching the screenshot on SCPBRG's photostream.
If, on the off chance, you are not a member of the San Jose Peregrines Discussion Forum, you may join by emailing SanJosePeregrines-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
There is something about nesting Peregrines that seems to inspire a lot of creativity -- poems, articles, photographs, drawings, jewelry, links to other exciting cams that bird watchers enjoy -- and this wiki is to share all of those observations.
This wiki is open to observers of the family of our San Jose Peregrine Falcon matriarch, Clara, and her current mate, Fernando El Cohete.
The 2012 season has been extraordinary for our viewers. Our established tiercel, Esteban Colbert (known affectionately as E.C.) who appeared on the scene on February 19, 2009, disappeared from the territory (presumably 'escorted' out) on March 2nd or 3rd of this year. Clara's new mate has been named Fernando El Cohete. Until March 17, E.C.s fate was unknown. However, on 3/17 E.C. was tentatively ID'd on SJ State campus, and on 3/18 that sighting was positively confirmed. E.C. is alive, in good health, and maintaining a presence in the general area. So far, this has not appeared to have bothered Clara or Fernando.
There will be regular reports here and on the Discussion Forum by the devoted followers of the San Jose City Hall falcons, who also frequent the San Jose State University campus, several blocks of the downtown, and parts of the City as yet not known to observers.
We invite you to join the 2012 adventure with the San Jose Peregrines! We will all enjoy viewing the nestbox and other favorite Peregrine perches on two new cameras which were installed in February 2010. This upgrade was made possible thanks to a successful fundraising by the San Jose Peregrine Falcon Alliance which raised $25,000 in combined monetary, equipment, software and labor contributions, from individual forum donors, as well as corporations, including but not limited to (strictly in alphabetical order):
- Adobe Systems Incorporated
- Data Display Audio Visual Co. L.P.
- DiscoverVideo
- Extron Electronics
- Sony Electronics, Inc
- The San Jose Peregrine Falcon Alliance
- The University of California at Santa Cruz
The San Jose Peregrine Falcon Alliance and the Peregrines of San Jose cannot adequately express their gratitude to all who made this happen.
